And other funerary practices.
This research-based project dives into funeral practices around the world. Typography is used as the visual element of interest rather than photography or illustration. Each title is playfully manipulated to reflect the subject discussed. The book was titled Dirt and Other Funerary Practices because the most common funeral practices we are familiar with in Canada and the US are burying the deceased in the ground or cremation. Keeping with the theme, the book uses a black and white pallet to represent life and death. White became the primary colour to visually reduce the heaviness of the subject matter and the pops of black represent mourners dressed in black within a white church.
